As I travel across the country, I am hearing this more and more. The strongest sentiment can be found in the Western and Atlantic provinces.

For some supply chain professionals it is a strong preference. For others it is a small factor in their decision making process.

The question I have always asked is would you pay more for local and how much more? What is truly local? If someone imports all the parts and does the final assembly in the province/city then are the products produced local? Even if the assembly is only 10% of the value of the product.

I tried to make my own interpretation. If you have a building/office and you employ people there, then you should be considered local.

My definition doesn’t work for everyone but at least it is a start.

Here are some statistics I found that might help you make your own decision regarding why you might want to source local.
