I get a lot of questions every day. Some are the same but said by different people. Some are separated by long periods of time. The one that comes up the most is “what am I going to be when I grow up”. The questions is asked by young and old alike. Wondering what is next is a common question.
I would like to think that if you want to be successful in your job then become the missing link. That you become what the company needs in order to be viable and productive. Every company might seem different but they all have something that they are missing. It is up to you to figure it out.
I have a standard answer when it comes to this question as posed by those in or interested in supply chain. My answer is simple.
Be the person who understands the business process and is there to translate the process for the people who are affected. There are a lot of people who can do and react to what is happening around them. There fewer that understand and plan on how to make things better.
You might need to take a few courses to build up this skill. For now all you need to do is ask one simple question. Why?
Why is it taking to much time? Why are the defects so high? Why are the suppliers late? You get the picture.
Be the missing link and always be prepared to ask WHY.
